In early 2019, a group of Black nonprofit leaders met to determine how best to collaborate professionally and personally for the good of the Charlottesville region. After a series of monthly discussions, a steering committee was formed to develop the key components of an umbrella organization that can champion Black empowerment and leadership development, especially within, but not limited to, local government and nonprofit organizations. The Black Empowerment Coalition is a result of this effort. We welcome all Black residents of Charlottesville and its surrounding counties to join us in the evolution and advancement of BEC.
